Buckingham IIs continue to lead Trysports Premier Two after they battled to a hard-fought 1-1 draw at third-placed Sonning, despite ending the match with just nine players.
Having travelled to Sonning with a squad of 11, Buckingham dominated the opening 10 minutes but failed to break down a stern Sonning defence, before Georgie Holme went off with a twisted ankle.
Although a woman down, Buckingham remained on top and deservedly went into half-time ahead after Andrea Freshwater teed up Ella Cusack for the opening goal.
Sonning hit back inside 10 minutes of the restart, though, before Buckingham’s frustrations deepened with Issy Honour taken to hospital after suffering concussion.
However, the visitors produced a display filled with determination and resilience in the final 25 minutes to see off the Sonning threat and earn themselves an important point in the race for the title.
Buckingham are two points clear of Wokingham at the top with a game in and and host Reading this weekend.
