THREE members of Brackley Squad Club have taken part in the Mantis Daventry Squash series with Alex Bensley making it to the final in the B grade.
Youngster Bensley was full of nerves prior to the tournament but he recorded a fine 2-1 win early on to boost his confidence.
He then showed tremendous speed and agility around the court to beat the top England ranked woman 20-18 after a marathon match before making a faultless run to the final.
However, after being pushed to the limits in his previous encounters, Bensley ran out of steam in the final as he lost in straight games.
Also taking part in the tournament was Tony Summersgill, who was unfortunate in meeting Harry Heathcock – playing well below his normal standard in the C grade – in his first match.
After putting in a good show, Summersgill suffered a 2-0 loss and, despite going on to win all of his remaining matches, he failed to reach the final.
The final member of the club competing was Dudley Venables, who featured in the D category.
Having only started playing squad since November last year, his inexperience showed as he slumped to losses in all of his match despite fighting hard for every point.
Brackley Squash Club will soon be turning their attention to the new season that starts in September.
