Thornton College Sports Scholar Evie Burbidge has been selected for the England Badminton team which will compete at the Sainsbury’s 2013 School Games.

Evie, 14, who lives in Towcester, started playing the sport aged six with the Milton Keynes Allstars Club. She is hugely involved in all the team sports at Thornton including athletics, hockey and rounders.

Her selection rounds off a fabulous year in which Evie won the U15 National Girls Doubles Championship and achieved a bronze medal in the National Mixed Doubles.

She has also been invited to attend the England U17 Badminton team summer training camp.

In preparation, Evie will now take part in training sessions across the country for the games which are to be held in Sheffield in September. She will compete in the singles, doubles and mixed doubles events.

Evie said on her selection: “I am thrilled to have been selected for the England Team! All my dedication and training has paid off – it has been so worth it.”

Samantha Hickman, Head of Games at Thornton, added: “Evie has done exceptionally well, she is totally committed to her sport and we wish her all the best for her England debut.”
