Buckingham fielded two U11 teams at the annual Burnham-on-Sea rugby festival – the Grizzlies and the Polars – with the two sides meeting each other in the Plate final.

Placed in Pool 1, the Grizzlies showed their aggression right from the opening game with six tries in six minutes to see off Redingensians Titans. George King (2), Jack Wildman (2) Adam Bonny and Tom Oliver were the scorers.

Next up were Cobham, who proved sterner opposition, but again Buckingham prevailed, before they lost 1-0 to last year’s winners Cwmbran.

Polars kicked off their tournament in Pool 2 with Charlie Fellingham securing a 1-0 win over Redingensians Rams, before Willoughby Ellson and Charlie Daniels joined Fellingham on the score sheet in a 4-0 win against Dartfordians, which was followed by a 0-0 draw with Cobham.

The following day brought two wins for the Grizzlies as they finished second, matched by the Polars, who also won their final two games.

With both teams finishing runners-up, the plate final was an all-Buckingham affair.

In a feisty contest, George King put the Grizzlies into an early lead but Isaac Flockton’s try earned Polars a draw.

Out of the 12 teams competing, Buckingham finished third (Polars – on points scored) and fourth (Grizzlies).
