CRAIG Gibbons, from Maxwell Swimming Club, along with his coach Kevin Brooks, have represented Great Britain at the recent European Swimming Championships.
The championships were held in Debrecen, Hungary, with Craig swimming well to achieve an un-rested personal best time, narrowly missing out on the semi-finals.
His performance puts him firmly on track for his main goal – performing to his lifetime best at the upcoming Olympic Games.
He said: “I was very happy with my swim. I knew it would be difficult as we are still in very hard training and didn’t rest up for this meet at all.
“I was delighted to be exactly a second off my personal best time of 50.49 seconds and things now look very promising for a new personal best time at the Games.”
To help Craig with his Olympic preparations, local senior swimmer Anne Yettram has offered £500 sponsorship towards his training costs.
Craig added: “I can’t thank Anne enough for being kind enough to sponsor me and for believing in my ability.
“Her backing is vital in helping me cover costs that because of training full-time I may struggle to meet.
“Anne is a swimmer herself and I see her most mornings I am at the pool training, it really helps knowing people are supporting you.”
