BICESTER’S junior athletes maintained their excellent record in the U9 and U11 events by winning both team competitions in the final Oxfordshire Junior League match at Horspath.

There was an impressive individual performance in the U11 boy’s event with Tom Couzens defeating 35 other competitors in the quad event, which is a junior version of the decathlon. Couzens was the fastest 600-metre runner on show, running 1.57mins before throwing a massive 38.5 metres for the longest howler.

Not to be outdone, Millie Couzens won the U9 quad event after producing the best performance in each of the four events, including a swift sub-13 second 75m (12.85). U11 girl Holly Griffith Brown also competed well to finish second out of the 55 competitors following a 11.98s 75-metre run.

Bicester had a good day in the boy’s throwing events with victory for Jake Cherry (18.66m) in the discus and Lewys Jones (20.20m) in the javelin.

Cherry also won the B-string javelin with a throw of 17.74m and was second in the A-string shot (6.45m).

Fergus Jones won the B-string shot with a putt of 4.81m and Jack Clements threw over 30 metres (31.03m) in the discus to take the U17 event.

U13 Jennie Procter produced one of the fastest 800m runs by a Bicester girl this season by clocking 2.51.81mins.
