Daventry overcame Brackley 52-17 in Midlands Three East South at the weekend despite a vastly improved performance from the lowly visitors.
The home side tested Brackley’s resolve within the opening minutes as their outside centre raced away for a try but Brackley responded with a series of driving mauls which led to a Jake Wise penalty.
The match then swung decisively Daventry’s way during a four-minute spell as back-to-back converted tries gave them a 24-3 half-time lead, with the second try coming just seconds after Brackley looked set to score themselves.
In the second half, Alfie Ling and Graeme Cartmell scored tries for Brackley, but the hosts completed victory.
Brackley host bottom of the table Deepings this weekend for a must-win match if they are to have any hope of surviving.
