King crowned on Captain’s Day

THE highlight of the week at Buckingham Golf Club was Chris Wilkes’ Captains Day which was won by overall winner Brian King with 41 points.

Despite forecast for rain, it was a glorious day and the golf didn’t disappoint.

Kerry Summer won the Ladies competition on 35 points from Jayne Collins and Elaine Harrison.

While Tony Uplh (37 points) won the Division Two competition for the men as Steve Leyland was runner-up and Phillip Morris third.

There was a three-way tie in Division One as Dave Thompson (39) won on countback from Jeff Wyatt and Morgan Stokes. Other winners were: Jayne Collins ( Ladies Longest Drive), John Price (Nearest the Pin in two), Dave Thompson (Men’s Longest Drive), Rick Kent (Straightest Drive) and Bill Blundell (Nearst the Pin).

In other news, Buckingham’s midweek medal was won by youngster Ben Jennings-Jenks with a fine score of 66.

Two shots back and in second place was Robbie Macpherson while Morgan Stokes came third.

The juniors took part in a half-term Stableford and Edward Jenks was the winner with 37 points followed in second place on countback by his brother Ben Jennings-Jenks and Oliver Clarke third.

On Saturday the men competed for the RNLI Spoon.

Club vice-captain Geoff Robb took the honours with a net 66 followed by Jeff Wyatt on 67 and past captain Bill Dodd on 70.
