Former Royal Latin student, Alyssa Lim, is looking forward to next month’s All England Badminton Championships in Birmingham.

The badminton star made her debut at the prestigious event last March and goes into this year’s competition on the back of a busy schedule.

Last month, Lim reached the quarter-finals of women’s doubles of the National Badminton Championships alongside partner Sophie Brown as well as round two of the mixed doubles with Christopher Coles.

She will again team up with the two when she enters the qualifying rounds in Birmingham, which kicks off on March 4 with a match against Russian’s Anastasia Chervaykova and Nina Vislova in the women’s doubles while Denmark’s Mads Pieler Kodling and Kamilla Rytter Kolding await Lim and Coles in the mixed doubles.

Lim said: “I’m in qualifying for both doubles and there is still some great players in qualifying so it’s going to be tough but it’s a great tournament.

“I played it for the first time last year and it was nerve-wracking but it’s a great event and something to aspire to and really nice getting to play in front of a home crowd.

“It is just exciting that it is one of the most prestigious tournaments in badminton and getting to play in it is really good.

“You use each tournament to make sure you are doing things right to build on further down the line.”

Lim will also arrive at the Championships fresh from having made her debut for England, reaching the quarter-finals of the European Team Championships in Basel earlier in the month.

And while it is all change from the team environment to just the doubles efforts at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena for the All England championships, Lim hopes to use her experiences as a springboard to success.

“It was my first selection for England which was great for me on a personal level to play my part,” she added.

“There was quite a lot of experience in the team and I really enjoyed it.

“It is a bit of a quick turnaround, you go from playing together as a team to trying to beat each other again but we are used to it all so it doesn’t really matter.”
