Bicester Hockey Club’s ladies teams experienced mixed fortunes on their return to action following Christmas.
The L1s, competing in Trysports Three Counties Premier One, remained sixth in the table after losing 1-0 to seventh-placed Aylesbury.
Having travelled to the impressive Aylesbury Vale Academy pitch, Bicester dominated much of the first half and created numerous scoring opportunities after some slick attacking play from Emma Gordon and Lilla Venning, but they were unable to find the breakthrough.
The second half was a more evenly-matched contest, with the Aylesbury forwards putting the visitors under pressure – and that pressure paid off as the home side grabbed the winning goal five minutes from time.
In contrast, the L2s smashed Maidenhead 5-0. Despite the one-sided scoreline, the encounter was competitive throughout with the Bicester defence working hard to keep a clean sheet.
Charlotte Cochrane opened the scoring from Emily Hill’s cross before Hill herself added a second to put Bicester two up at the interval.
Sheryl Webb put the result beyond doubt with two goals at the start of the second half and Charlie Humphries completed the scoring late on.
Finally, Bicester L3s were beaten 6-2 by Marlow L4s. Louise Walker put Bicester in front and Nicky Cameron doubled that lead, but Marlow upped their game and scored four goals in quick succession before completing victory with two further second half strikes.
