Buckingham Ladies Hockey Club captain, Zoe Shipperley, said she was ‘massively proud’ after winning her first Great Britain cap.
The 23-year-old, from Marsh Gibbon, made her debut last month when Great Britain took on New Zealand in San Diego at the USA Olympic Training Centre – a match won 2-1 by GB.
She said: “I couldn’t really believe it. It was an amazing feeling. I gave up a while ago and it sort of came out of the blue. It was a massive shock but I’m massively proud.
“It felt amazing to play for my country. I was nervous before my first game because I just wanted to get through it without messing up! But it was a big milestone and something no one can take away from me. I felt I played pretty well. I didn’t do anything spectacular but I didn’t make any mistakes either so it was a solid performance.
“Now my aim is to play more games. We’ve got a busy year so I want to keep myself in the squad and play as many games as possible.”
