BUCKINGHAM 1st XI were made to work hard for a seventh straight win as they eventually broke down a determined Taunton Vale side to win 4-0.
Captain Katrina Nicholson was injured but Abby Webb made her National League debut after returning from University.
Buckingham began slowly but – although lacking their usual intensity and flow – they still managed to dominate proceedings.
However, they found themselves up against an inspired home goalkeeper and a desperate defence that kept out seven penalty corners and numerous other chances to remain level until the break.
Despite their frustrations, Buckingham came out firing in the second half and eventually opened the scoring from their 10th penalty corner that was scored by Zoe Shipperley.
Despite relentless Buckingham pressure, the home side continued to remain resolute until Charlie Bracken extended the lead further, with another penalty corner strike.
This finally seemed to break Taunton’s resistance and Fiona Farley added a third while captain on the day Shipperley sealed the points with her second from yet another penalty corner.
Buckingham maintain their five-point lead at the top of the table having won all of their first seven matches.
This week they are without a game before facing a busy weekend next week when they take on third-placed Trojans at home and then travel to last year’s play-off opponents Beeston in the cup.
The 1st XI are also pleased to officially announce their new shirt sponsor One Stop Craft Shop (www.onestopcraftshop.com), who will offer invaluable support to the squad this season.
