Buckingham’s Margot Sharp shot a magnificent hole-in-one on the 17th hole at the Hazlemere annual Interclub Challenge competition.
Sharp was presented with a bottle of champagne for her achievement, while Buckingham’s other star of the day, youngster Karen Robinson, finished as the best individual on 36 points and took first prize with her team members in the mixed team competition. Buckingham’s ladies team also did well, coming second in the main Interclub Challenge.
Back at Buckingham Golf Club, 62 men were fighting it out in the midweek Stableford and it was Judd O’Conner who took victory after beating Aubrey Walker on countback as both scored 41 points. Kevin Hewson was third.
The fair weather on Saturday attracted 77 competitors for round 17 of the Dr Stableford Cup, and Andrew Miscampbell led them home with 43 points. Two points back, Sam Newbould pipped Stephen Howard for second place on countback.
The showery weather the following day saw a smaller field contest a medal competition for the Battle of Britain Trophy. Bill Blundell and Dave Howell each shot a nett 67, Blundell winning on countback. One stroke back, Morgan Stokes took third spot.
Finally, Joe Farrell won the Seniors’ Glenmorangie Putter with 40 points, putting him two clear of seniors’ captain, David Briggs, with club captain, Geoff Robb, a further point back.
