Swans frustrated in first defeat

Buckingham Swans suffered their first defeat of the season on Sunday in a 26-17 loss to Moseley in round five of the Championship Midlands Two.

The home side started on top and put Moseley under some intense early pressure which culminated in a try for Julie Nichols following good phase play.

Having rarely posed any danger on the Buckingham defence, Moseley gained some momentum towards the end of the half and scored two quick tries before Katie Clark and Sophie Lepper linked up well, allowing the former to power over and reduce Buckingham’s deficit to two points at half time.

However, Swans then endured a frustrating second half as a couple of controversial decisions went against the hosts and they struggled to keep hold of possession, which allowed Moseley to dominate and score twice to pull clear.

Sophia Maynell scored a late try to give Buckingham faint hope but the visitors held on. Swans have the ideal chance to bounce back this Sunday when they host top of the table and unbeaten Loughborough Ladies.
