Moyers plans big season in 2013

A SPIN during the Grand Final of the Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone two weekends ago may have ruined Michael Moyers’ chances of winning the world’s most prestigious Formula Ford title, but the local youngster promises that he will be back next season to win the world famous crown.

An association with Kevin Mills Racing allowed Moyers to mount his most serious challenge so far on the Walter Hayes Trophy and he progressed strongly through the heats and semi finals to reach the final.

As the race entered its closing stages, Moyers suffered a spin at Brooklands corner as he was attempting to pass eventual race winner Tristan Nunez and podium finisher Ivor McCullough.

He said: “I made a small mistake and paid the price. The race was very frantic and I thought I had to try and make a move.

“The whole WHT weekend was another big learning experience for me and I believe Formula Ford 1600 and the Walter Hayes Trophy are events that all young drivers should experience.

“It is the biggest arena in the world for drivers like me to make our mark and can lead to many things.”

Moyers had not raced since the 2011 Walter Hayes Trophy Grand Final and so to deliver such a strong performance did not go unnoticed.

Kevin Mills, the boss of Kevin Mills Racing, said: “Michael approached us to see if were able to run him in the Walter Hayes Trophy.

“We had a car available for him and were very pleased to add him to our squad.

“He was unlucky not to win, or finish on the podium, and we believe he can win the trophy next season.”

Moyers is planning a season of Formula Ford 1600 action in 2013, and is looking to race in the Champion of Brands series.

He added: “The Champion of Brands has a good profile and I think it would be a good series to race in and try to win.

“My plan is to do the CoB and a handful
of high-profile races in the SuperSeries before aiming to win the Walter Hayes
Trophy.

“I am looking for some support to make it all possible, and I am confident that I can deliver a return to any partner.” JB
