The 2014 BTRDA Rally Championship will kick-off next month when the Weir Engineering Wyedean Forest Rally takes place, write Colin and James Beckett.

Won last year by the Subaru Impreza S9 of Connor McCloskey and Francis Regan, the Forest of Dean Motor Club event always attracts a capacity entry, with numerous Advertiser & Review region crews expected to form part of the entry list.

This year, 165 crews will be permitted to start the rally, instead of the normal 180, with competitors visiting seven individual special stages.

Taking place on February 15, the Wyedean Forest Rally is the traditional start of the British rallying season.

Meanwhile, the Monte Carlo Historique Rally begins next week, with nearly 300 competitors entered to participate. Starting from cities spread across Europe, the rally crews will make their way to Monte Carlo for a series of special stages. Queenie Louwman is entered to compete in her Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT with co-driver, Eric Schulte.

She said: “It is a great event and the entry is huge. I am really looking forward to the rally and this year we have chosen to start from Barcelona.

“Snow is predicted and the route will be hard, but the Alfa has completed the rally before and I have good hopes for another finish this year.”
