Buckingham Town are third in Cherwell League Division Three after falling one wicket short of victory against
Shipton-under-Wychwood.

After winning the toss and batting at Bourton Road, Buckingham openers
Ashley Pearson and Steve Brunning made a quick start against the seamers, putting on 49 at over five-an-over.

The introduction of spin from both ends slowed the run rate before Brunning was run out for 15.

The home side managed just nine runs off the next 11 overs, losing a second wicket in the process, as Shipton fought their way back into the game.

Pearson remained tied down by the spinners and was eventually dismissed for 38 as Buckingham fell to 114-5.

However, in-form Simon Myatt batted well at one end and was then joined by Jack Parish.

The pair added 55 in 10 overs with Matt passing 50 before being dismissed by Barass.

Parish also went to his first 50 of the season in Buckingham’s final score of 212-7.

Shipton’s reply started poorly as Myatt and Callum Price both took early wickets to reduce the visitors to 11-2.

George Seacole was solid at the other end but as in the first innings, the introduction of the spinners saw regular wickets fall as Shipton limped to 89-6 before Seacole finally found some support in Barass.

The pair added 63 to give Shipton an outside chance before Seacole (87) and Barass (19) fell in consecutive balls.

Buckingham also took the ninth wicket in the final over but couldn’t finish the visitors off as they ended 156-9.

Jack Parish followed up his 50 with 5-55 while Price took 2-15.

Buckingham, who are third and one point behind Shipton, travel to second from bottom Leighton Buzzard Town this weekend.
