The Silverstone-based Sahara Force India team saw both of their cars finish inside the top ten in Sunday’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone – a result that team principal Vijay Mallya hailed as a ‘fantastic achievement’.
Nico Hulkenberg finished seventh, while team-mate, Sergio Perez was ninth.
Hulkenberg, winner of the Le Mans 24-Hour Race last month, has now scored points in the last three Grands Prix, and he said: “That was an entertaining afternoon and it is great to come away from our home race with a bunch of points.
“My start was sensational! Maybe the best I have ever had in F1. I moved into fifth ahead of the Ferraris and was able to be close to them for the first stint. The rain near the end made everything exciting, but for me it probably came at just the wrong time as I had just passed the pit lane entrance when it began to rain really hard. I am happy though and I have to say a big thank you to the team.”
Perez added: “We have shown good progress this weekend and there is a lot of potential for the second half of the season. I think we can score points in most races for the remainder of 2015. Things feel good right now.”
Mallya praised his team, saying, “This is a fantastic achievement. Historically this track has never been good for us, but our updated VJM08 car looks competitive in all weather conditions.
“The track provides a tough test for a Formula One car so I am optimistic we can continue to challenge for the rest of the season.”
