Byfield maintained their 100 per cent record in the South Northants Cricket League Premier Division this season after a slender eight-run win over bottom of the table Thornborough.
Joe Osbourne (3-32) and Dan Hassell (3-58) reduced Byfield to 203-9 before Martin Thomas (35) and Ryan Lightfoot (34) took Thornborough to within nine runs of victory.
Elsewhere, Syresham continued their good run of form with a 108 win against Marston St Lawrence after George Brock hit 82 and Dave Mitson took 5-39 to stay third, but Evenley were beaten by 36 runs at Middleton Cheney despite Barney Williams taking 6-36.
In Division One, Byfield A are top on 131 points, 31 clear of second-placed Evenley A, who beat Willoughby by three wickets with Martin Ayres scoring 64.
However, Hinton-in-the-Hedges’ troubles continued with a 10-wicket defeat to Afro Caribbean, while Charlton wrapped up an emphatic eight-wicket win against Woodford Halse after Ryan Knight’s 4-25 helped bowl them out for 55.
Dunchurch & Bilton are top in Division Two on 110 points as they beat Hanslope by 18 runs, but both MK Air and Marston St Lawrence have two games in hand.
At the other end of the table, Croughton are third from bottom after they bowled Crown out for 61 (Rashid Mehmood 6-9) and comfortably chased down the target.
A fine unbeaten 72 from Nick Blackman was key in Silverstone’s 81-run win over Woodford Halse A in Division Three, although Syresham A suffered defeat despite Mark Evans’ 6-39. Kings Sutton currently lead the division from Gayton, who beat Bodicote.
Division Four leaders Towcestrians won their seventh match from seven to remain well clear – this time easing to a nine-wicket win at home to Maids Moreton.
Helmdon are third in the table as they beat Radway, both Chris Lipson (4-24) and Tom Hirst (4-25) bowled well for the home side.
In Division Five, Thornborough A got the better of Evenley B in a tense encounter that saw Evenley reach 128-5 before Thornborough chased down the target with one wicket to spare. Both sides lie mid-table, while Silverstone are third and Brackley sixth after both suffered defeats.
Finally, Hinton-in-the-Hedges A skittled Preston Capes A out for just 34 to win by 91 runs, Oliver Jeffs took 7-15.
