EVENLEY took a huge step towards winning the South Northants Cricket League Premier Division following a comprehensive nine-wicket win over Castlethorpe while Syresham lost at Middleton Cheney.
Anthony Romaine’s unbeaten 44 took Evenley to their target after he had taken 4-22 to bowl Castlethorpe out for 90.
They are now 32 points clear at the top with two games left after Syresham (135) were beaten by three wickets at Middleton Cheney (138-7).
Meanwhile, Hinton-in-the-Hedges (90) remain bottom as they were trashed by Thornborough (277-8) and Marston St Lawrence tied with Warwick and Byfield recorded victory over Woodford Halse.
In Division One, Radway maintained their one-point lead over Wroxton at the top having beaten Grange Park by three wickets in a low-scoring encounter.
Wroxton also won as they beat Bodicote by 10 runs while third-placed Byfield A kept the pressure on the leaders with a 24-run win against Stoneleigh despite Mark Reading’s 4-33.
In the other two matches, Greens Norton (136-2) beat Preston Capes (134) and Afro Caribbean (138) defeated Willoughby (82).
