STOKE Bruerne are top of Division Five of the Northamptonshire Cricket League after hammering Brixworth 2nd XI by 128 runs.
Despite the gloomy weather, play got under way after only a short delay with Stoke batting first.
The visitors made a shaky start and lost both Simon Orme and Alex Homes cheaply but Charlie Edwards (91) and Marc Bliss (25) got the innings back on track by adding 43.
But another couple of quick wickets left Stoke floundering on 75-4.
However, Edwards continued to bat well as he and Robert Anderson (44) added a much-needed 80 before the former fell agonisingly short of his century.
Anderson remained at the crease and, along with Gary Bliss (10) and Luke Adams (20), helped guide Stoke to 226-9.
Brixworth never looked like getting close to the target with Ashley Morris and Bliss taking early wickets to put their side in control.
The spinners finished the job as Dave Weston stood out by taking 4-8 of 9.3 overs while Luke Adams finished with 2-16 and Morris 3-42. Stoke will look to continue their recent form when they entertain Wellingborough Indians 2nds this Saturday at 2pm.
