Syresham Cricket Club have won the Wardington Cup after beating Warwick University Staff by seven wickets in a closely contested final held at Byfield.

Warwick Uni Staff won the toss and elected to bat first but were quickly reduced to a perilous 14-6 inside just six overs thanks to an excellent spell of opening bowling from Syresham’s Nathan Archer (3-9) and Mark Mounsdon (2-12).

Warwick recovered in the last 10 overs to post a respectable target of 118-8 after some fluent hitting from their lower order batsman, in particular Prasham Garg who top scored with an unbeaten 37.

In reply, Syresham made a positive start thanks to a run-a-ball 38 from opener Adam Beckett before Mohd Ali Farifi (2-16) dismissed both openers and restricted the run-rate.

It was then an unbeaten partnership of 59 between George Brock (20no) and Matt Butler, who struck 40 not out off 20 balls, that secured a well deserved victory for Syresham with an over to spare.

Nathan Archer won the Man of the Match award in a game that was played in great spirit by both teams and well hosted by Byfield.
