YOUTH FOOTBALL: A fine all-round team performance saw Moretonville U16 Girls Phoenix advance to the Bucks Girls Cup semi-finals, having finished off the group stage with a 7-2 home victory over EB Lions.
Despite having most of the play Phoenix went 1-0 down in the first half but Leah Ballinger made it 1-1 going in at the break.
The second half was all Phoenix as a Rachel Thorpe hat-trick, goals from Christina Jones and Becca Smart and an own goal increased the score to 7-2.
>>Moretonville Wanderers U12 drew 0-0 with Olney Town Colts in an evenly fought game.
Wanderers came closest to scoring in the first half through a fine chip from Dominic Ede who beat the keeper but saw his effort cleared off the line. Later in the half, Max Kelly’s fierce free kick from outside the box crashed against the post.
In the second half both defences were on top and few chances were created. Player of the day was Cory Race for his tackling and overall effort in midfield.
>>Top of the table Moretonville U15 Tornados drew 1-1 with Brackley Athletic. Tornados took the lead in the first half when George Ford’s corner found its way to the back post where an unmarked Jason Dickinson rifled the ball home.
Ville held the lead into the second half but Brackley’s pressure was increasing and their striker managed to place a well struck shot over the head of keeper Chris West to bring the score level.
The game continued to swing one way then the other, but the tie remained even at the final whistle.
