Adrian Churchill demonstrated why he is regarded as one of Britain’s best saloon car racers when he thrilled crowds at the Rockingham Motor Speedway, Corby, with a superb victory in a round of the BARC Production Touring Car Trophy.
Absent for most of the season due to the on-going development of a new Ford Focus, Churchill opted to return to competition at Rockingham.
Fourth fastest in qualifying, Churchill finished his opening race in the same position and was looking for improvement in his second race only for a second lap incident at Dean Hairpin ruling him out with damage to the Ford’s steering.
Starting his third race of the weekend from the back of the grid, he put on a near perfect demonstration drive as he moved his way through the pack and into the lead.
Once in the number one position, the Tingewick ace pulled out an advantage in his Churchill Motorsport-entered car to win.
Afterwards, Churchill said: “I would like to thank Courtenay Sport for all their help again this weekend.
“We have spent considerable time on developing the Ford and it is now clear we are heading in the right direction.
“Having been away from the championship for most of the season it was good to return and score a win at the first meeting.
“It would be good to do the same again next time!” JB
