FOOTBALL: Thornborough Athletic enhanced their title prospects in the North Bucks Premiership with a battling 2-1 home win over Wolverton Town to share top spot on goal difference.

Athletic were 1-0 behind at half time last Saturday but bounced back with a goal by Parker, Town also conceding an own goal.

Leaders Southcott Village RA lost 5-2 at Great Linford and have now played two more games than Thorborough.

Third-placed MK Wanderers Reserves are two points off the lead with games in hand after a 2-1 win at Brackley Sports. Wanderers sealed victory in the second half after it was 1-1. Prescott was the Brackley scorer.

Fourth-placed Potterspury lost ground on the leading teams with a 3-1 defeat at Loughton Manor, Kelly netting the visitors’ goal.

Basement side Buckingham Town Reserves bagged a rare point in a 3-3 draw with Grendon Rangers. Whitehead, Smith and Hyde netted for Town. Stewkley slammed Silverstone 5-0 at home.

In the Intermediate Division, Great Horwood were emphatic 5-1 home winners over Denbigh Hall Sports to climb back to third spot. Darren Sirrett fired a treble, with Brunning and Archer also on target. Horwood are six points adrift of leaders Stoke Hammond but have a useful four games in hand. Stoke hammered AFC Santander 5-0.

Second-placed Brackley Sports Reserves kept up their promotion hopes with a 3-1 win at Wicken Sports, Diggins netting for Wicken.

Syresham ran out comfortable 3-0 home winners over Steeple Claydon.

In the Interdivisional Trophy second round, Buckingham University lost 2-1 to City Colts after extra time.

The Division One Trophy semi-final saw a 3-1 defeat for Potterspury Reserves at the hands of Charlton & District, Tydeman, Knight and Firth the Charlton scorers.
