CRICKET: Tows continued their good form this week against a strong Brigstock side, also well up the table in the push for promotion.

After winning the toss, Towcester put Brigstock into bat on a wicket that looked very dry and one which could favour batting. Brigstock made a solid start, with all of their top five batsmen getting in, but Towcester kept picking up wickets.

At one point Brigstock were scoring so quickly it looked as though Tows could be chasing a score of 200 plus, but the introduction of Mathew Yuill (5-34) helped to prevent that, Yuill bowling well in the absence of Jack Parish.

Yuill was well supported by Ben Laycock (3-35) and David Williams (2-20) with Bradley Morris and Suk Singh both top scoring with 32.

Tows made a slow and steady start to their innings, they then lost a couple of early wickets to leave the game well poised at 38-2.

It was then down to the two men that had caused so much damage with the ball to score runs. An excellent third wicket stand between Ben Laycock (54) and Mathew Yuill (46 not out) put Towcester into the driving seat.

When Laycock was out Towcester were just 50 runs short of victory. Tows then lost just one more wicket and in the end eased home, with six wickets and 16 overs to spare.

Tows next week host in form Rothwell at Greens Norton Road.
