CHILDREN have responded happily to the merger of two neighbouring schools.
When the bell rang at Towcester Church of England Primary School in Islington Road for the first time at the start of this term, it sealed the merger of St Lawrence School and Towcester Infants School.

Fences that once divided the infant and junior schools have been removed and children of all ages can mix at playtime.

Headteacher Marion O'Grady said: "I think the children are already getting used to being one school, and being able to speak to their older or younger brothers or sisters."

A special assembly was held on the first day, uniting 260 children from the two schools for the first time. Staff wore special T-shirts for the day carrying the school's dove logo, and further celebrations are planned for next month.

Mrs O'Grady added: "The children have reacted really positively, we just seem like one big happy family that has been here for ages."
