ORGANISERS of the Weedon Lois and Weston Country Fair have said this year is set to be their most successful to date.
More than 2,000 visitors made the most of the warm weather as they enjoyed the event.

Face painters, jugglers, balloon modelling, a bouncy castle and a demonstration of owls were among the fun.

Visitors also watched as Carl Tucker beat 300 fellow competitors in the Great Weston Five Mile race, crossing the line in 28 minutes 24 seconds.

Other highlights included the Terrier Race which saw Dave the border terrier – owned by the Pomeroy family – win the event.

Katie Tyler, spokesperson for the organising committee, said: "We are still counting up but it is looking like a record year in terms of money raised for local good causes."

Paul Smith, chairman of the organising committee, said: "We had one of our best days ever.

"There were lots of people and lots of happy faces. It was a really lovely day."

The fair was officially opened at midday by local couple Martha and George Sitwell, who later crowned the May Queen.

Money raised during the fete will go to a variety of local good causes including the SS Mary & Peter Church in Weedon Lois, maintenance of the village hall, for play group funds, and towards the drama club.
