SOME of farming's finest cattle and sheep could be seen at the 124th Blakesley Show and Gymkhana held last weekend.
The Blakesley and District Agricultural Society held the annual event at Hootens Farm last Saturday, with farmers from around the country taking along livestock and other produce.
Several thousand people went along to the event, which also included show jumping, craft stalls, a dog scurry with around 70 dogs, steam ploughing, tractor pulling, woodworking and carving demonstrations.
Frank Osborne, chairman of the society, said: "Our entry of cattle was 160 which was only down by 10 on two years ago, and we had 171 pens of sheep. The various classes were well represented and the quality was fantastic.
"Everyone had a good day and there were a lot of attractions to entertain people. Next year will be our 125th show, so we will be making an extra effort by including jousting in the main arena."
Last year's event was affected by livestock movement restrictions imposed nationally following a case of foot and mouth disease in Surrey.
