In Buckingham, a service was held at St Peter and St Paul Church, which was followed by a procession to the Old Gaol Museum where a re-enactment of the Crucifixion was held in the Market Square.

The event was given a modern twist with a woman, Sian Whyte, as Jesus Christ. Around 150 people turned up to watch.

Brian Stocker, of Well Street United Church, said: "The re-enactments have been going on for around 20 years or longer. There was an element of the traditional and the contemporary in the re-enactment and we were trying to help 21st Century minds understand the significance of Good Friday."

A procession was held from Brackley Methodist Church on the High Street, in Brackley, to the town hall. A service was held on the town's piazza, which was followed by coffee and hot cross buns.

The Rev John Lovelock, Deacon of St Bernadine's Church in Buckingham and St Martin's Church, Brackley, said Brackley's Good Friday procession was well attended by people from all the town's congregations.

Methodist minister the Rev Andrew Bradley gave the main address on the piazza, and other town ministers also spoke.
