Some 234 people took part in the annual 5km event in Great Horwood, on Sunday, March 16, helping to raise £2,250 for the Great Horwood Combined School.

George Ashdown and Tanya Taylor were the winners of the men's and ladies races and Adam Armitage and Anna Dwyer came first in the 16 and under categories.

Race secretary John O'Reilly said: "The weather wasn't very good so we considered cancelling but fortunately it cleared up enough for it to go ahead.

"Lots of children took part which is really nice as it's very much a fun run as well as a serious race.

"It's a great chance for the community to get together. Some of the roads are closed off so people can wonder around the town without having to worry about traffic."

The school's parent teacher association also helped organise the race which is sponsored by Buckingham accountancy firm Boyd Coughlan.

The March Hare Run has grown in popularity in the five years since it was moved to March from Boxing Day.
