BUCKINGHAM moved into third place in the UCL Division One after this comfortable home win last Saturday, reports Sports Editor Mark Pendred.
It was the second league victory of the season for the improving Robins, who were always in command against Wootton, except for a shaky spell towards the end of the second half.
Town make the trip to high-riding Northampton ON Chenecks tomorrow, Saturday, where another good result would keep them in touch with table toppers Peterborough North Star. Last season Town thumped Chenecks 8-2 away.
Against Wootton, player-boss Tony Joyce put the Robins ahead after 14 minutes with a low, angled shot from a free kick.
Joel McCormick, who has rejoined Town after a summer of football in America, netted the second in the 28th minute after a solo run into the box.
Substitute Reuben Max-Grant replaced the injured Tyrone Taylor just before the break.
Max-Grant made it 3-0 in the 52nd minute with a lofted close range shot and the Robins looked to be coasting.
But they allowed Wootton back into the game and in the 75th minute Sam Dandio struck for the visitors. More Wootton pressure on the Buckingham goal saw them hit a post.
But Max-Grant sealed victory in the last minute of the game when he ran onto a cross and slotted home for 4-1.
Josh McAdoo had another good game in goal and defence was for the most part solid, with Joyce, Toms, Hart and Clinch the mainstays.
Boss Joyce said afterwards: "Although we won comfortably, we didn't play particularly well and there is room for improvement.
"ON Chenecks have started well and will be a good test for us on Saturday."
Buckingham: McAdoo, Toms, Joyce, Hart, Clinch, Dart (Mills), Holloway (Amoroso), Flinn, McCormick, Taylor, Williams.
- The Robins were in league cup action on Wednesday at home against Rushden & Higham and continued their winning ways with a 1-0 victory.
- After a goalless first half Joel McCormick grabbed the winner in the 72nd minute, running onto a ball from substitute Gianfranco Amoroso.
- Town Reserves entertain Peterborough North Star, tomorrow, Saturday, at Ford Meadow, while Town Youth host Bedford FC next Tuesday, September 9.
