Former Bicester Rugby Club winger Jamie Nicklin, 24, of Longfellow Close, Bicester, lost his battle with non-hodgkins lymphoma last September and his memorial match at Bicester Rugby Club provided a fitting tribute.

It saw Bicester Old Colts, made up of many of Mr Nicklin's friends and former Rugby colleagues, emerge 12-7 victors over the current Bicester Colts team.

The match was watched by Mr Nicklin's wife Shelly and his mum and dad Pauline and Ian.

"It was an amazing, brilliant, emotional day," said Jamie's mum. "The atmosphere was incredible and it was just a perfect tribute to Jamie."
Mr Nicklin played for Bicester between 1996 and 2001 and his former coach Colin Morris, who took charge of the Old Colts on Sunday, said: "It was a competitive match, played in good spirit. Having Jamie's wife and twins there really lifted what would have been a sad occasion."

Money was also raised for a charity of the family's choice, which they are yet to decide on. The amount raised is still being counted.

Before his death, Jamie and Shelly discovered she was pregnant, and on March 22 this year, she gave birth to twins John James and Hope Rae.
