Around 6,000 revellers from all over the country came to the brand new festival to enjoy bands including Athlete, Supergrass and Fun Lovin' Criminals, as well as a show-stealing solo acoustic set from Verve frontman Richard Ashcroft.

Paul Reaney, from festival organisers Toast Events, said the single-stage format had proved a great success and is likely to be kept in future years.

He said: "It was an intimate gig, and I don't think that's something we would want to lose.

"The temptation is to make it five times bigger next year, but I don't think we'll do that. I think that one stage on one day really works, it keeps all the audience together.

"It was a massively encouraging start."

Mr Reaney said the festival also wants to keep the solo headline artist as a regular feature. Richard Ashcroft's set, which included favourite Verve hits such as Sonnet and The Drugs Don't Work, was one of the highlights of the day.

Other bands included Black Kids, Royworld, Young Knives and The Rascals.
The day stayed dry and warm with intervals of bright sunshine. Thames Valley Police confirmed there had not been a single reported crime, nor were any arrests made.
