The first Winslow Academy of Film and Television Arts (WAFTA) Awards, complete with formal wear and red carpets, were held at the school to mark the end of a film competition launched in January.

Children, divided into three age categories, were invited to make a film and submit it for viewing by the whole school.

Emily Pool, school co-ordinator for information and communcation technology, said: "The standard of the movies was very good for the first year, and exceeded our expectations for technical ability as well as creative ideas."

She added: "We organised the award ceremony in the hope of recreating the glamour associated with the Oscars and the BAFTAs, and the children really joined in with the spirit of the evening, dressing up and walking down the red carpet."

All films were shown either in whole or in part, and each category winner was presented with a trophy and goodie bag by headteacher Bob Green.

Inspiration for the WAFTAs came from Paul Adams, assistant headteacher at Buckingham Primary School, who had helped arrange a similar competition and shared details with other schools across the county.

Key Stage 1 and Foundation stage winner was Elizabeth Fahy with the film Lucky to the Rescue. Years 3 and 4 winner was Sophie Baker, for The Turtle at the Party, and Years 5 and 6 winners were Johnnie and Alice Torjussen, for 'Web'.
