AN ANTIQUE EVENING: AN Antique Evening, with guest Hugo Morley Fletcher, is being hosted by Adstock Village Hall Committee tomorrow, Saturday, in the village hall, 7pm for 7.30pm. You are invited to bring a piece of porcelain or glass for valuation.

ART EXHIBITION: AN art exhibition is being held tomorrow, Saturday, and Sunday, April 26, from 10am to 5pm at the village hall.
John Tibbetts and Angela Hawker are holding their annual exhibition of watercolour paintings and drawings, some of which are of the local area, and greetings cards will be for sale.
John's new book, Akeley in Pictures, which contains original drawings of Akeley, will be on sale.
Refreshments will also be available.
BINGO: VILLAGE bingo is being held on Monday, April 27 at 7.30pm with your host John Cowley.
Everyone welcome.
AEROCISE: AT the village hall on Wednesdays from 9.30am to 10.30am, £5 per session.

STEP BY STEP: WHY not join us on Thursday evenings from 8pm to 9pm for ballroom and Latin American dance lessons.
It's good fun and good exercise, £10 per couple or £6 single.
ANNUAL MAY DAY WALK: ON Monday, May 4 there will be two routes for the May Day Walk.
For those wishing to take the longer route over the fields, John Cowley will be departing from the village hall at 10.15am.
There is also a family/pushchair-friendly route which leaves at 11.30am.
Both walks will end at the Scout field in Chapel Lane around noon.
The Scouts have kindly agreed to provide refreshments for a nominal charge, or please feel free to bring your own picnic.
Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome.

PRE-SCHOOL OPEN EVENING: ON Tuesday, April 28, Gawcott Pre-School is holding an open evening in the village hall from 7.30pm.
An ideal opportunity to meet other pre-school parents and staff and find out about the Early Years Framework and how your child is nurtured and cared for on a daily basis.

GREAT HORWOOD RAINBOWS: RAINBOWS enjoy a variety of craft activities, simple cooking, outings and lots of games.
We encourage the girls to work together and to think of others and the wider community.
Rainbows is open to girls from the age of five and up to seven years.
We meet in the Scout HQ (in the grounds of Great Horwood School) on Wednesdays from 5pm until 6pm.
We have a few vacancies for the summer team, so if your daughter would like to join us, or come and see what we do on a visit, she will be made most welcome.

BELLRINGERS: IT is hoped to get the bells ringing again at Great Horwood, consequently there will be a practice on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm.

REFUSE FREIGHTER: THE roving village freighter service will next visit Great Horwood on Thursday, April 30 between 7.30am and 11am.
For the use of the villagers, AVDC provides a special refuse freighter, which comes to a regular site in Willow Road (on the car park) on a half-day visit.
Householders can then deposit waste into the vehicle.
The content could be overseen by the driver and the type of waste would be under his control.
If you need waste items removing at any other times contact 01296 585510.
The service is only for the collection of household waste and will not take any of the following - fridges and freezers, clinical waste, dressings, car parts including tyres, exhausts, batteries, oils etc.
Hazardous waste - asbestos etc, commercial or business waste, building rubble, paint, liquids or garden chemicals etc.

Rubbish left on the site before the refuse freighter will be regarded as fly-tipping and offenders may be prosecuted.

THAMES VALLEY COMMUNITY: BUCKINGHAM South neighbourhood policing team and Neighbourhood Action Group (NAG) are holding a youth event tomorrow, Saturday, where young people can get careers advice and information on sporting, leisure and voluntary activities.
Young people from Winslow and surrounding villages are invited to attend the event at the Winslow Centre.
There, they will receive information and advice on a wide range of careers, after-school activities, volunteering groups and much more.
They can also take part in a number of activities on the day, including a mobile skate park, a climbing wall, an 'i-van' (where ring tones can be created and downloaded to your phones), learn to DJ, various sporting activities, pottery-making and even a mobile bell tower to learn bellringing.
More than 70 different organisations, groups and charities have so far confirmed their attendance. These include the emergency services, the armed forces, the motor engineering industry, agriculture, music and arts, hospitality, construction, and hair and beauty.
Voluntary organisations attending include: St John Ambulance, Red Cross, Macmillan Cancer Support, Royal British Legion, Guides/Scouts, Youth Café, Youth Club and Duke of Edinburgh Award, to name just a few.
Staff from youth careers service Connexions will be on hand to give advice, and specialists on CV preparation and interview skills will be there to give guidance.
As well as showing some aspects of a career in the emergency services, Thames Valley Police, Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service and Central Bucks Ambulance will be staging a medical emergency to give an insight into consequences of dangerous driving.
Food and refreshments are available, including a hog roast.
The event will run between 11am and 6pm, concluding with a live band who will be available all day to talk to young people who want to know more about the music industry.

ANNUAL PARISH MEETING: THIS will take place on Thursday, April 30, at 7.30pm in the village hall.
Invitations have been sent out to all the village organisations and of course all villagers are very welcome and encouraged to attend.

VACANCY: THE parish council currently has a vacancy and we have determined there is no demand in the village to have an election to fill the vacant position and so the parish council is now in a position to co-opt a councillor.
If you take an interest in the life of our community and feel you would like to make a contribution by joining your parish council then please contact me in the first instance.
I will be able to provide you with some literature which explains the role of a parish councillor.
I would also recommend that, if you have not done so already, you attend a parish council meeting at the first opportunity in order to confirm your interest.

HELP US RAISE CASH: FOR the Great Horwood and Singleborough Recreation Trust.
We are taking part in the Fonaid mobile phone recycling campaign.
By donating your mobile phones of any age or condition, Fonaid will give us £3 per phone, plus an extra £100 of vouchers for every 100 we collect.
The mobiles are recycled.
The Trust will be very grateful for your donations, it all helps to fund our new recreation ground.

SUNBEAMS: THE next meeting of the Sunbeams will be on May 12.
For those of you who are new to the village, Sunbeams is a children's service which takes place in the Scout hut every second Tuesday in the month between 2pm and 3pm (term time only).
It is very informal with a wide range of children attending from small babies to four-year-olds.
We normally start with a story, a song with musical shakers and bells, a short prayer, followed by an activity, so the children always take something home with them.

BABY AND TODDLER GROUP: MEETS every Wednesday afternoon in the village hall between 1.15pm and 2.45pm (term time only).
Your first visit is free and any future visit is only £1.50 for the first child and 50p for each additional child.
Prices include a tea or coffee, with a biscuit, and a juice and a snack for the children.
Our meetings now include a choice of exciting and different toys from the Toy Library each month.
All mums, dads, grandparents, mums-to-be and carers are very welcome.

A WALK BACK IN TIME: AFTER years of hard work and fundraising the village hall has been saved and we now have a very attractive small village hall with a modern, well-equipped kitchen, modern toilets, including one for the disabled, and a stage.
To celebrate the hall's refurbishment and its centenary, the village will hold A Walk Back In Time over the weekend of May 23, 24 and 25, from noon to 5pm each day.
Many stalls will sell produce, hanging baskets, plants, cakes, books, stamps, crafts and much more.
There will also be sheep dog demonstration, vintage vehicles, World War II army camp and more.
Children can attend a Teddy bears' picnic and be entertained by the Buckingham jester and his magic tricks.
Displays telling the story of the village over the last 100 years will include the forge, post office, school and pub.
The population of the village will be increased by a troop of some 50 scarecrows.
These colourful creations will be everywhere helping to set the scene, including a scarecrow wedding in the church.
A sponsored horse ride in aid of the local Riding for the Disabled groups and the village hall will take place on the Sunday morning.
There will be a pair of tickets each for the Horse of the Year Show for the senior and junior riders who collect the most sponsorship.
Also prizes for the best turned-out horses and riders, junior and senior.
There is a special Handy Pony event for disabled and able-bodied riders, entry on the day.
Local RDA members will be taking part, so those entering the sponsored ride will also have a chance to see just how worthwhile their contribution will be. Entry fee for the sponsored ride is £15 riders 14 and over, £7.50 riders 13 and under.
The event is supported by Tobin Jones Property, The Veterinary Centre at Maids Moreton, HorsAtack and Milton Keynes Eventing Centre.
There will be staggered start times with the first riders setting of at 9am.

POST OFFICE COFFEE MORNING: THANK you everyone who came along to support this morning.
A grand sum of £101.73 was raised for the church. All contributions were gratefully received, so thank you for any part you played in this achievement.
SWANBOURNE FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS: A BRING and buy and coffee morning is taking place tomorrow, Saturday, in Swanbourne Village Hall from 10.30am to noon.
Please come along and support the club, which provides entertainment, trips and social opportunities for our elderly.
Any donations on the morning will be gladly accepted or if more convenient drop them in to me! Thank you.
SHOULDER OF MUTTON: DON'T forget to put the fun quiz, which is planned for the first Sunday of every month beginning on May 3, in your diary.
Friendly darts games take place every Wednesday starting at 8.30pm - you don't have to be an expert!
Steak Night is every Saturday from 7pm.
GALAXY: THERE'S plenty of room and a warm welcome for any children aged between seven and 12 who would like to come along to join in the fun of stories, songs, games and friendship, based on learning more about God.
It is held every Thursday during term time (except May 21) in the Rectory Rooms, Main Street, Mursley from 5.30pm to 6.45pm.
If you'd like to meet old friends or make new ones why not give it a try.
CLUTTER: IF you have used stamps, mobile phones, out-of-date rice or pasta, knitting wool, material scraps or anything suitable for holding a bring and buy, please put it on my doorstep and I'll make sure it gets to the right places and is used in a way that will help others.
SCHOOL DINNERS DISCO: THIS event is being held on Saturday, May 9.

ANNUAL PARISH CHURCH MEETING: THIS is being held on Tuesday, April 28, at 8pm in the memorial hall, followed by cheese and wine

CHURCH SERVICES: WELL done to all those who turned out to take part in the Good Friday Walk.
There were over 90 people and everyone enjoyed themselves very much.
A big thank you to the organisers for helping to make it such an enjoyable time of friendship and fellowship as well as being a healthy start to Easter.
On Sunday, April 26, there is Holy Communion at Little Horwood at 9.30am; a Family Service at Mursley at 11am; and a St George's Day Service at Swanbourne at 11am.
An Interactive Family Service is being held on May 3 at 11am in Little Horwood Church.
This will be followed by a shared lunch in the old school.
You just bring along whatever is most convenient for you, it is put on the tables and we eat and chat!
The first shared lunch was held last month and was such a success that it has been decided to continue on the first Sunday of the month through to July.
The playing field and children's play area is next to the hall so why not come along to join in the fun and enjoy these wonderful facilities.

WHEATSHEAF QUIZ EVENING: THE next quiz evening at The Wheatsheaf will be on Monday, May 11, commencing at 8.30pm. Teams should be a maximum of four people.
There will be a nominal charge which includes a snack buffet, the proceeds of which will be donated to a local charity.

GRUMBLE GRANGE: THE next Grumble Grange meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 5, at 7.30pm.

OPEN GARDEN IN PADBURY: THE Morley-Fletchers are opening their garden at The Old Vicarage, Thornborough Road, this weekend from 2pm to 6pm on both days.
They have a large garden of two-and-a-half acres on three levels, with flowering shrubs and trees, a vegetable garden, pond and sunken garden, parterre, magnolias and trilliums.
Teas with home-made cakes will be available, the proceeds of which will go to the League of Friends of Buckingham Hospital, and admission is £3 a head (children free).
TENNIS CLUB: THE tennis club's Strictly Not Come Dancing evening is tomorrow night, Saturday, in the village hall at 7.30pm for 8pm.
Tickets have been selling well so do ring Tracey Sargent on 01280 816203 to see if any remain.
The Tuesday club nights started this week and the secretary, Sarah Morris on 01280 816262, will have all the details.
ALI'S DREAM CLAY PIGEON SHOOT: THE annual Ali's Dream Clay Pigeon Shoot takes place this coming Sunday, April 26, at Padbury Hill Farm, and will help to raise money to fund research into childhood brain tumours.
The day starts at 9am and spectators are welcome at a cost of £10 a head (£5 for children under 12).

ANNUAL CHURCH MEETING: ST MARY'S Church is holding its annual church meeting this coming Sunday, April 26, at noon during which churchwardens will be elected, along with members of the Parochial Church Council and sidesmen.
Nominations for the post of churchwarden must be handed to the minister before the meeting and anyone on the electoral roll may take part.

NEW INN ACTIVITIES: Nigel's Card Night is coming to the New Inn this coming Sunday evening, April 26, from 7.30pm.
This will have a whist theme and will be for all levels of players.
I understand someone will be on hand to give a bit of help and I know there are quite a lot of card players in the area, so it will interesting to see how the event turns out.

WINSLOW & DISTRICT ARTS SOCIETY: FOLLOWING the outing to Kew in March to visit the Shirley Sherwood Gallery of Botanical Art, members will be interested to see a demonstration of a botanical subject in watercolour by Jill Winch at their meeting on Thursday, April 30.
This will be at the Winslow Centre starting at 7.30pm.
New members and visitors are always very welcome.

CLOTHES EVENT FOR PADBURY SCHOOL AND PRE-SCHOOL: IS your wardrobe bulging with clothes you haven't worn in years?
Then come to an evening of fun and frocks on Friday, May 1, in the village hall at 7.30pm for 8pm.
Each guest brings at least one item of clothing, a pair of shoes or an accessory to swap.
The clothes are displayed for everyone to choose from and try on, and you and your friends go home with a great new look.
Entry is £5 a head which includes a drink and a goody bag and all proceeds will go to Padbury School and Pre-School.

LITTER PICK: THERE will be a litter pick held in the village on Saturday, May 2.
As many volunteers as possible should meet at the play area on Main Street at 2pm.

THE ANNUAL LAMB LUNCH: THE very popular Lamb Lunch is being held once again at Betts Farm House, Winslow Road (thanks to Fred Morris) on Sunday, May 10, starting at 12.30pm.
It's a great event with families on picnic rugs sitting all round the garden in the sunshine.
Tickets are £8 for an adult and £4 for children.

100-1 CLUB: AS we are in the run-up time to the start of the new season in the 100-1 Club, and for those who may not know how it operates, it works like this.
There are two draws per month over a 10-month period for an annual subscription of £20.
The prizes are £100/£50 and £50/£25, but to continue at this rate will largely depend on how many people sign up.

They are hoping the first draw in the season will take place in June so you still have a few weeks either to renew your membership or become a new member.
BINGO: BINGO is to be played in the village hall tonight, Friday.
It all starts at 8pm.
Last week the snowball melted to the tune of £80 and, together with her winnings during the earlier part of the evening, the lucky lady went home with a total of £158!

VILLAGE FUN QUIZ: THE quiz will be held tonight, Friday, in the village hall at 7.30pm.
Teams of four are invited to take part, and tea and coffee will be served - please bring your own drinks and nibbles.
There will also be a raffle.
SYRSHAM SPORTS AND SOCIAL CLUB: THERE will be an English Food Night tomorrow, Saturday, starting at 7pm.
Food will include traditional roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, and full English breakfast, plus rhubarb crumble and bread and butter pudding.
There will also be guest beer at £1.50 a pint (on presentation of club membership card).
Come along and enjoy some home-cooked English fare.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY: ON Wednesday, April 29, come along to the village hall at 7.30pm to find out about Tingewick's connections with the Boxer Rebellion that took place in China in 1900.
The speaker will be John Kleine.
Admission £2 and all are welcome.
MOBILE LIBRARY: THIS will be in Stowe View from 3.20pm on Thursday, April 30.
THE ROYAL OAK: TOMORROW, Saturday, there will be birthday celebrations for Sandra, the landlady at The Royal Oak on Main Street. The fun starts at 8pm and there will be food and music provided.
On Thursday, April 30 it's quiz night starting at 8.30pm.

POLICE CLINIC: ON Monday, April 27, it is the regular police clinic at the village hall from 5pm to 6pm.

TEDDY BEAR WEEKEND: THERE will be a Teddy Bear Weekend at St Mary's Church on June 6 and 7.
Activities, displays, refreshments and a raffle will be held in the church between 2pm and 5pm on both days.
A special service will be held on Sunday at 11am followed by a Teddy bears' picnic.

MAY DAY CELEBRATIONS: THE Village Hall Committee invites you to come along and join us for our traditional May Day celebrations on Monday, May 4 at 2pm.
Join the procession at 1.30pm at the village hall and parade down to the recreation ground following the May Queen.
Attractions include raffle, cakes, plants, bric-a-brac, bouncy castle, barbecue, books, teas, dancing displays from the children of Twyford School and Twyford Ballet School.

ANNUAL ASSEMBLY: THE Annual Assembly for the village will be taking place in May.
More details will be given on posters and email - the event includes relevant speakers, eg councillors.
PLANT SALE: THERE will be a plant sale on Saturday, May 23 at Clarissa House, in aid of the church building works and graveyard extension, so let the Friends of St Mary's representatives know if you have any plants you can donate.
PARISH COUNCIL MEETING: ITEMS from the parish council meeting included the following:
The Village Hall Committee wish to transform the hall into an amenity which better meets the needs of the community and supports the Recreation Committee's aims for providing a recreation ground near to the village hall.
They plan to extend the kitchen; grants for this are available, although they need the support of the parish council to apply.
The council wholeheartedly supported the goals (and plans) of the Village Hall Committee.
There is a request from the county council for comments on existing bus services, as they are shortly going out to tender.
Please give any comments to members of the parish council.
Eileen Robbins will be sending the comments on as council representative for public transport.
There is an ongoing discussion regarding the replacement of the railings by the road at the Slapton turn.

Water Stratford

OPEN GARDENS: FOUR springtime gardens in the village will be open to visitors on Wednesday, April 29 from 10am to 5pm.
The event is in aid of the Church Restoration Fund.
Two of these gardens came in the top three in the local Tingewick and Water Stratford Horticultural Society Spring Garden competition.
Home-made refreshments will be on sale all day and the ticket price of £3 will include a coffee or tea.
The open gardens , and the refreshment area, will be clearly marked as will a walk down to the river (weather permitting).
The village church, St Giles, is open every day and visitors are very welcome to visit this too.

Westbury

VILLAGE BREAKFAST AND EASTER TRAIL: APPROXIMATELY 50 children enjoyed the Easter trail to find and enjoy an Easter egg.
It was a lovely day and many more people went on the walk to go back to the pavilion and enjoy a late breakfast which included sausage/bacon butties and pastries.
Huge thanks to all those who in any way helped to organise this popular event.
Hopefully we will have another one soon.
ART CLASS: AN art class takes place each Friday morning at 10am in the pavilion.
