A SUMMER WALK: THE REVEREND Ros Roberts from St Mary's Church here in Padbury has organised a Rogation Walk from Padbury to Hillesden this coming Sunday, August 31. The plan is to leave Ox Lane bridge in Padbury at 2pm and finish up at All Saints church, Hillesden, for a Rogation Service at 4pm which will be followed by some welcome refreshments.
So, if the idea of a pleasant afternoon in the countryside with, we hope, some good weather appeals to you, do come along, and don't forget to bring the dog as everyone is welcome.
If walking isn't your thing, just come to Hillesden Church for the service and I believe transport can be arranged should this be necessary.
Please contact either Ros Roberts on 01280 813162 or Jenny Shield on 01280 814474, either of whom I am sure will be able to help.

Theresa Wright will be speaking about Hardy Exotic Plants, which in view of the effects of global warming we are hearing about all the time, is probably very appropriate.
New members are always very welcome but do give Sue Crook a ring on 01280 816505 if you would like further information.
HISTORIC CHURCHES TRUST RIDE STRIDE: I MENTIONED last week that taking part in this event was not only an ideal way to raise money for the church of your choice (half the money you raise through sponsorship goes to the Trust and half to your church), but it is also an excellent opportunity to see some of our green and pleasant land by walking or cycling round some of the local churches. The only thing I didn't mention was the date, it's Saturday, September 13. Choose your own route, but above all get your sponsorship forms now from Geoff Harper on 01280 817855 and ask all your friends, acquaintances and business colleagues to sponsor you per church visited, per mile covered or whatever. It's a great family day out.
PADBURY VILLAGE FETE: PADBURY School will be running a couple of stalls at this year's Village Fete on September 13, and Sara Birch of the Padbury School Parents & Friends Association would be enormously grateful for help please in sourcing clean jam jars for their jarbola stall.
Any little gifts or sweets to fill the jars as well would be a great bonus!
If you have time to rifle through your cupboards and come up with any surplus items (foodie goods will need to be in date of course), please donate them to the school for their tombola stall. Many thanks for your generosity and Sara can be contacted on 01280 821236.
PADBURY PRE SCHOOL: PADBURY'S brand new Pre-school opens very soon now for children from two to five years old.
It will operate every morning from 8.50am to 11.50am with an additional lunch club on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays until 12.45pm.
I am sure this will be a very welcome facility for local families so please ring the Pre-school on 07504 687059 or email padburypreschool@
aol.co.uk to check availability either for this term or for January 2009.
