HUNDREDS of people helped begin the build up to next year’s London Olympics with a mass dance at Towcester Centre for Leisure last weekend.

Organisers believe that at any one time the event was host to around 500 people.

The mass dance was part of the Blaze Dance Relay which saw similar events taking place across the county.

The dance was the culmination of a whole day of activities which included live bands, a mobile climbing wall, and a range of sports including kayaking in the swimming pool.

Brian Taylor, chairman of South Northants Leisure Trust said the event put a focus on sports facilities in the town and added: “It was an official event for the Olympics and even got a plug on the 2012 website.

“Towcester Rock School added to the whole atmosphere but it was really to raise the profile of sports and leisure generally and we were certainly very pleased with the numbers.”
