The renovation of Bury Mount and the Water Meadows in Towcester town centre has won a high profile national award.
Completed in April 2010 Bury Mount has now won the restoration category at the Museums and Heritage Awards 2011, beating a project at Westminster Abbey into second.
Hosted by TV personality Sue Perkins, the awards celebrated achievements in the world of museums and heritage attractions. The award is the second for the Mount after being recognised by the British Association of Landscape Industries in December.
Chris Garden, WNDC’s Director of regeneration and development said: “It wasn’t that long ago that Bury Mount and the Water meadows were inaccessible, forgotten gems.
“After a significant amount of investment, it very satisfying to see them being enjoyed by local people and recognised with major national awards”
