Awards for district’s food heroes

MOUTH watering businesses in Towcester and Farthinghoe have been labelled food heroes during the Carlsberg UK Northants Food and Drink Awards.

Yesterday, Thursday, January 27 Andre Gonzales de Savage, Northants County Council’s cabinet member for communities travelled the county visiting the winning businesses for himself.

In Farthinghoe he visited Limes Farm run by Ian Dorwood and his family. The shop opened in October selling homemade wares and local produce and was named one of four local food heroes in the county.

Mr Dorwood said: “My wife, Nicky, had tears in her eyes as we walked up to fetch our trophy. That’s because our family business means everything to us and winning this award is wonderful recognition for our efforts.”

Receiving one of the top awards Julie Elliot of Angelina Cupcake won the best local produce award for her Chocolate Surprise Cupcake.

Mrs Elliott said her business had grown after her twin sons started school a year ago and added: “To have come up against some long established firms with some fantastic products and to win is overwhelming.”
