It was a double celebration for Westbury with an unexpected accolade won by its community cider.
The village brews its own cider, locally referred to as Westbury Wallop. An apple mash, organised in October by Steve Viner and Rupert Smith sees the village gather apples from various gardens to be pressed, pulped and fermented.
The cider team entered it into the Herefordshire Big Apple Cider and Perry Trials, in Putley. They won the novice category and were presented with a certificate at the Westons Cider Factory at Much Marcle, by local MP Bill Wiggin.
The award follows the village’s win in the category for ‘celebrating the best of local food and drink’ at the Aylesbury Vale Environmental Awards.
The third Westbury Wallop night with complimentary cider is being held on July 6. For details and tickets contact Steve Viner on 01280 701755 or Rupert Smith on 01280 704992.
