IT may be the turn of the big boys of F1 to take to the famous Silverstone circuit this weekend, but if it’s Classic race action you want you’ll need to come back at the end of the month.
The Silverstone Classic is a fabulous 3 day weekend of ‘Flat Out Fun for all the Family’ now celebrating its 21st birthday.
The ‘Worlds Biggest Classic Motor Racing Festival’, with around 800 fabulous and exotic race cars competing, it attracts about 1,000 competitors and more than 7,000 beautiful classic cars on the infield.
Taking place from July 22-24, the event has an ‘Access All Areas’ policy, rock and classical music entertainment on a grand scale, aerobatic displays, a Period Fun Fair and shopping.
There will be a total of 22 races over the weekend, along with rock music from Suzi Quatro, 10cc, Wishbone Ash, and top tribute bands to Bob Marley, Queen and the Rolling Stones.
That’s all followed by a classical extravaganza on Sunday with the 40 piece Amadeus Orchestra, Tetra Electra, and Tenors Un Limited.
If that’s not enough, there will be aerobatic displays with a Spitfire, Mustang, The Blades and The Red Devils, along with the chance to visit the new ‘Silverstone Wing’ pit complex.
A 400m Go Kart circuit, live demonstrations including The Street Car Shootouts and a steam traction rally add to the fun,
Or if you want to kick back and relax there will be outdoor seating on the village green with a big screen and delicious food and a bar by Jamie Oliver’s Fabulous Feasts.
As if all that isn’t enough, the 2011 Silverstone Classic will also be celebrating 50 years of the E-Type Jaguar, 50 years of the Mini Cooper, 75 years of the Spitfire and 60 years of Ferrari’s first World Championship race win.
