Open mic nights open to all are hosted by Buckingham Acoustic Club every week from 8.30pm on Thursdays in the Woolpack on Well Street.
New performers are always welcome and the music varies from indy to folk, from Bowie to Soft Cell and from the African rhythms of local band Safari Boots to the finger style guitar of Udo Dolz.
Visitors can sign up on the night for a performance spot of three songs, with the chance to do more than one spot if it is not a busy night. Every evening is different, the club provides a good PA and all types of instruments are welcome from keys to violin and guitars, but the club does not do MP3 backing tracks.
The club also organise Buckingham’s annual Music in the Market supported by the town council. Plans for this year’s event on Sunday May 28 are already well advanced.
Free music will be on all day in the Market Square from 1pm - 10pm and there will be lots of local performers. This year’s headline band is Buckingham’s own The Straight Laces.
There will be food stalls, acoustic solo and duo spots, new and old combinations of performers and bands throughout the afternoon and hopefully the opportunity to Zumba.
More details will be publicised before the big day.
