Noël Coward’s sparkling comedy Fallen Angels comes to Northampton’s Royal stage from Monday in its first revival since it was a champagne cork-popping hit in the West End just over a decade ago.

Jenny Seagrove and Sara Crowe star as best friends Julia and Jane, in this heavenly new production of the comedy classic.

A mutual long-ago-lover announces his intention to pay Julia and Jane an impromptu visit while their passionless husbands are away playing golf, . All in a fluster, there’s clearly only one thing to do: hit the bottle!

Or rather, pop open the champagne! As each successive glass of liquid courage is imbibed, tongues start to loosen, hidden jealousies surface, the claws come out, and all attempts at demure behaviour go out the window.

However, it’s not until the unexpected early return of their golfing husbands, that the women’s evening really hits its frenzied peak.

Fallen Angels runs until Saturday,
