A NEW scheme to give people on the Aylesbury Vale housing register more choice over where they live was launched today, Thursday.
The new Bucks Home Choice scheme, launched on May 28, will be administered through Aylesbury Vale District Council's (AVDC) local offices and the website www.buckshomechoice.gov.uk.
Nigel Brooke, AVDC's corporate director of services, said: "Bucks Home Choice will help residents in many ways. Applicants can actively seek a home rather than waiting to be offered properties, and will have more choice over where they live.
"There is an enormous demand for social housing and this new system aims to be as fair as possible."
Available homes will be advertised every two weeks, and applicants can express an interest online, over the telephone, or by post.
Previously, those on the housing register were assessed for new homes on a points system. Now, people will be placed in one of four priority bands, A to D, in order of need.
Applicants can then express an interest in homes available in the relevant band. Homes will then be allocated at the end of each fortnight based on greatest need.
The scheme opens at 9am today, Thursday, when the first round of properties will be advertised.
Application forms and advice are available from AVDC staff on 01296 585168 or 585197, and housingneeds@aylesburyvaledc.gov.uk.
