AROUND 90 acres of farmland near Buckingham were ploughed over a recent weekend as the Edgcott and Winslow Young Farmers held a 24-hour plough-a-thon.
Between 20 and 30 members of the club spent from midday on Saturday, August 16 to midday on Sunday, August 17, ploughing the fields at Tyrellcote Farm, in Thornton, to raise money for the club and the Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance. Three tractors went throughout the night to plough between 70 and 90 acres of farmland.

Club vice-chairman, Emma Ward, said the event was expected to raise around £1,000, which would be split between the club and the air ambulance. She said: "We had a broken tractor and a broken plough to start with, but after that we didn't have any accidents. Last time we had a tractor end up in a ditch, but this year it went well."

Miss Ward said she wanted to thank the event's sponsors including the Bonner family, who owns the farm, tractor suppliers Lister Wilder, Browns, AG Ford and David Crook. Donations for the event were received from Olivers, M-Trac, Baldwins Bakery, Clays Butchers, Tesco, the Co-op, Paragon and Boarstall Meats.
