A CELEBRITY football match has raised around £7,000 for Winslow United and local charities.
Former Winslow resident Joe Callaghan, who plays Miles De Souza in the popular soap Emmerdale, had invited the Emmerdale Allstars team – made up of actors from a variety of TV shows – to play Winslow United FC at their home ground in Elmfields Gate on Saturda, July 5.

More than 1,500 people, including visitors from as far afield as Scotland and Italy, turned out to watch the charity clash, just beating the previous highest attendance figure for a match against Tottenham in the '80s.

Mr Callaghan, a former resident of Lowndes Way and one-time Winslow United player, said: "It was a fantastic day. Fans and players were totally in the spirit. I'm incredibly proud of everybody involved and the town, and very grateful to everyone who came to show their support."

Fans met stars and got autographs before the match, despite traffic problems which delayed many of the actors.

In a fun match, the visitors finally won 4-3.

Proceeds will be shared between Winslow United and charities supported by the Lions Club of Winslow.
