Princes Risborough drivers asked to not idle their cars in the town

Climate Action Now Risborough (CAN) hold a monthly meeting called the Zero Carbon Cafe which is based at the Princes Risborough Community Centre where they talk about different climate related issues and what they can do locally to improve things.

At their last meeting, they met with local shopkeepers who told them they were unhappy with the amount of smog and exhaust fumes from people who left their cars idling in the town while they nipped into the shops.

Most of the shops on Risborough High Street are now raising awareness of the campaign by displaying a poster supporting the initiative.

Libby James, who is part of the group said: "We hope that across Buckinghamshire people will stop leaving their cars in idle when they are going into shops.

"I was at the Department for Transport where I saw balloons which had statistics on, and just one minute of leaving your car in idle mode can release as much as 150 balloons full of harmful chemicals.

"I thought that was shocking.

"After discussing the concerns of local stakeholders, we have started this campaign to raise awareness and so far the community have been really positive with their responses."

CAN holds talks at the Princes Risborough Community Centre, with their next talk on Thursday February 13 from 19:30 - 21:30 entitled 'Menders and Fixers'.

The next talk after that will be on Thursday March 12 from 19:39 and will be entitled 'Plant for a Future'.

CAN work with local schools to raise awareness of climate change and currently have a climate promise tree on display at Princes Risborough Library.
