Back in November 2018, Europe marked the First World War armistice with numerous Centenary celebrations in and around Flanders Fields. Twelve months on, there will be further celebrations in both Belgium and the Netherlands as towns and villages mark the 75th anniversary of liberation from Nazi Germany.
As if the sea view from my exquisite room is not enough romance for me, looking through the Hotel Formentor’s plush coffee table book about its history lays out its romantic beginnings with a capital R.
Whenever I visit historic buildings I like to see the areas where the servants lived, in preference to the ornate splendour of the state rooms. Because I know, had I lived in these historic times, it is far more likely the servants quarters is where I would have been living myself!
To the locals it's the 'The Sunniest Place in Denmark' yet the Danish island of Bornholm, with its picture-postcard fishing villages, dense beech and conifer forests, stunning beaches and rugged granite cliffs, is little known to us in Britain.
