A £1.8 MILLION grant from the government will let the Northants Fire control room pin point the nearest crew to a particular fire.
The grant will pay for new communication systems and allow closer working relationships between fire services in Northants and Warks. The automatic vehicle location system will even allow the neighbouring services to send each others fire engines out on jobs to ensure the closest one is sent.
Warks fire service will also receive £1.8 million to fund their side of the project.
It is planned that eventually control rooms for both services will be rolled into one facility.
Andre Gonzalez de Savage, Northants County Council’s cabinet member for public protection said the money will improve the efficiency and quality including faster mobilization of crews.
